  • Rainbow Foods, a healthy alternative. 4th Street  downtown, near the capital building.   "Follow Your Health"...Rainbow foods offers a daily salad bar with fresh organic ingredients, and has fresh muffins, cookies, coffee, gourmet chocolates, and great music playing in the store. Very popular with locals, bring a reusable grocery bag. Whole Foods - Eat your heart out!
  • Hangar on the Wharf , a popular spot on the Juneau waterfront, Interesting reliable menu, Good Food, Good Times, and great view. Reservations suggested 586-5018. Also try nearby, Pizza Ria Roma, same owners offer gourmet thin crust pizzas and salads, nice selection of wines and beers, using lots of fresh garlic.
  • El Sombero Restaurant, 157 S. Franklin Street. The food here is consistently good. The same family has been running this for many years. Great Mexican food and fun. Good Value, and friendly staff make this a Juneau tradition.
  • Kenny's Wok & Terriaki Sushi Bar, 124 Front Street. The food here is reasonably priced and a good value. Not a good choice for vegetarians, but the employees here are very friendly, the service quick, and the food is good. Also up the street and around the corner, try Wild Spice Mongolian Grill. Good Value for the price, all you can eat
  • Here are "Family Friendly" B&B's:

  • Alaska's Capital Inn , is a restored goldrush era home. The inn is a short walking distance from the state office building and the state capital making this location perfect for a downtown Juneau stay.
  • The Silverbow Inn    Right in the center of the downtown area.  A historic bakery right on the premises.

  • And then some hotels:

Juneau has all kinds of lodging options. You can find B&B's that serve sourdough pancakes, or you can choose a main stream hotel with modern ammenities. You can camp out in the wilderness by reserving a park cabin or camp at the US Forest Service campgrounds. The Mendenhall Campground near the Glacier was remodeled in 2004, so it even has showers with hot water. It depends on the kind of experience you are looking for. We also have some older rustic places to stay and some big hotels too, with nice restaurants. Near the airport you will find several hotels and places to stay that make catching a flight at the airport a breeze, if you stay downtown you will be part of the hustle and bustle no matter what time of year:

  • Frontier Suites Good location near Juneau International Airport, located in the Valley area. It has an airport shuttle and on premises restaurant.
  • Westmark Baranof upscale lodging in Juneau, located Downtown, Central Reservations: 1-800-544-0970, 1-907-586-2660. It has a great coffee shop and a nice dinner restaurant.
  • The Goldbelt Hotel also nice lodging in Juneau, located Downtown, Central Reservations: (888) 478-6909. On premises Asian restaurant called "ZEN".
  • The Southeast Elderhostel program sponsored by University of Alaska ~ Southeast, an interesting program for Senior citizens, who want to learn as they travel.
